Off-road cycling trails opened in Surrey Hills
An extensive 80km network of off-road cycling trails in South West Surrey was opened by local MP, Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt, after having been awarded a £19,000 grant by The London Marathon Charitable Trust (The Trust).
Funding from The Trust for this regeneration project, known as Cycle Surrey Hills, has allowed the Surrey County Council to add a new system of signs, route markers and network maps that makes it easier for riders to access and navigate these trails and experience the spectacular scenery of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
Cycle Surrey Hills aims to encourage residents and visitors of all abilities to be active and improve their fitness, by offering clearly marked long distance rides as well as shorter loops. This project directly supports The Trust’s current focus to create opportunities for people who don’t currently participate in physical activity.
Donna Fraser, Olympic 400m bronze medalist and Trustee, spoke at the launch: “This is a great project for us, as it makes it easier for people to be active, enjoy off-road cycling and take in the natural beauty of Surrey at the same time. It is exactly the kind of project that we’re delighted to be involved in.”
