The Trust joins forces with Northamptonshire Community Foundation

A grant of £250,000 from The London Marathon Charitable Trust to inspire physical activity will be distributed to projects across the region by Northamptonshire Community Foundation.

The fund will provide a series of small grants of up to £20,000 to organisations across South Northamptonshire and Aylesbury Vale District Council area that deliver the greatest possible impact for children, young people and those who are less likely to be active. All applications and grant giving will be managed by Northamptonshire Community Foundation, working in partnership with Heart of Bucks CF, LEAP, Northamptonshire Sport and other local partners.

The programme will open in January 2019 and run for two years. The closing date for applications in the first year will be in May 2019. The programme will then re-open in January 2020.

Examples of the types of projects that may receive funding include those that provide inclusive, accessible and sustainable facilities for physical activity. Organisations may have a successful track record of tackling inequality of access to physical activity or provide ambitious, innovative projects that encourage people to be physically active.

Sarah Ridley, Chief Grants Officer of The London Marathon Charitable Trust, said: “Our trading company London Marathon Events Ltd organised the Silverstone Half Marathon from 2010-2017. During this time, organisations in South Northamptonshire and Aylesbury Vale District Council areas became eligible for funding from The Trust.

“We awarded more than £720,000 to several terrific local projects over this time. It’s been great to the see the positive impact these grants have had on the community. We are so pleased be providing a final legacy contribution of £250,000 to enable even more projects to build, renovate or modernise their facilities and create opportunities for sporting activities over the next two years.”

Victoria Miles, CEO of Northamptonshire Community Foundation, said: “This is a superb funding opportunity for groups and organisations who are focused on delivering projects that help people get active, healthy and fit.  We are delighted to be working in partnership with The London Marathon Charitable Trust to help them reach groups and organisations known to the Community Foundation.”
