Facilities Grants Programme
We accept applications to our Facilities Grants Programme for projects taking place in our core areas of London and Surrey.
The application process for our Facilities Grants Programme differs slightly depending on the size of the grant you are seeking.
Grants of between £5,000 and £50,000 are available for community projects in London and/or Surrey which aim to help improve existing amenities or to build new facilities that will enable organisations to encourage and support all members of the local community to become and remain physically active.
We have a simple Expression of Interest (EOI) form, which you must submit to us so that we can confirm that your organisation and project are eligible for funding. Confirmation of eligibility does not imply funding will be provided.
Those applicants who are eligible will then be invited to complete a simple, one-stage online application form for a Small Grant. This is a rolling grant programme and applications are considered on a quarterly basis.

Grants of between £50,001 and £250,000 are available for the renovation, modernisation or creation of significant facilities in London and/or Surrey for organisations that can demonstrate a clear commitment to encouraging and supporting all members of the local community to become and remain physically active.
We expect successful applicants to have a robust business plan in place for the facilities in question as well as effective strategies for increasing participation in physical activity, sport and/or play. In order to understand the impact of our grants, we also expect successful applicants to have clear plans in place for monitoring and evaluating the impact of the projects that we fund.
We have a two-stage online application process for a Major Grant.
Stage 1: Applicants must complete an online application form to demonstrate the eligibility of their organisation to receive funding and provide key details on the facility improvement project, why it is needed, what impact it will have and how it will be sustainable in the long term. Stage 1 applications are considered on a quarterly basis.
Stage 2: Those applicants invited to progress to Stage 2 have 12 months from the date of their Stage 1 approval letter in which to submit more detailed information for consideration at one of the quarterly Trustees’ meetings.
The Trustees have the discretion to award grants of more than £250,000 through the Facilities Grants Programme where a particularly strong case is made to demonstrate the impact on The Trust’s priorities. These grants do not usually exceed £500,000 and are selected on an invitation-only basis. We do not accept unsolicited applications for grants at this level, so please contact us if your organisation would like to apply for a grant of more than £250,000. Examples of these grants include:
- The London Marathon Community Track in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park – £3.4 million
- The London Marathon Pavilion at Herne Hill Velodrome – £750,000
